The McHenry County Conservation Foundation was established to promote the goals and objectives of the McHenry County Conservation District. We hope you will explore this website to learn more about the Foundation and our efforts to support the district and preserve our natural heritage.

You and your community benefit from open space through the prairies, woodlands, wetlands and other unspoiled natural areas of McHenry County. Help secure, protect and manage these areas for future generations. Quality of life, property values, air and water quality, and the beauty and wonder of nature will continue to be a part of our community through your generous support of the McHenry County Conservation Foundation.

Participation in the Pedal-Paddle-Saddle Through the Prairie
on June 5th will help support these projects:

Restore Gravel Hill Prairie Species to the "New" Kame North of Lost Valley Visitor Center  The goal is to recreate the native plant community that once existed on the kame.

Blanding's Turtle Enclosure  Building a secure outdoor enclosure for the IL endangered hatchling Blanding's turtles housed at the District would allow them to experience the natural conditions of sunlight, temperature, rainfall, water quality, etc. and ease their transition from a captive to wild environment.

Short-eared Owl Aviary The District's permanent short-eared owl resident is an integral part of the education program and is seen by thousands of people each year.  Currently she is housed in a small cage used for rehabilitation and needs a larger cage.
